Bath salt is a natural ingredient used in skincare, it is also one of the elements of relaxing baths. It has many beneficial properties for the body. If you would like to prepare such a bath, check what beneficial effects you can expect.

Bath salts is an important skincare product. Just a few minutes in a bathtub can soften the skin and accelerate the absorption of ingredients used during and after the bath. The compounds contained in it improve blood circulation, oxygenation of skin cells and reduce pain.

Types of bath salts

There are many different bath salts, such as Himalayan, Dead Sea, Mediterranean Sea or Epsom. Each of them has slightly different properties and applications.

  1. Himalayan salt is a crystal-clear salt not contaminated by pollution. It contains several dozen minerals that positively affect the condition of both the skin and the whole body. Himalayan salt soothes irritations, moisturizes the skin and helps to reduce cellulite.
  2. Dead Sea salt is extracted or taken from the Dead Sea. It nourishes, moisturises and regenerates the skin. Dead sea salt also stimulates blood circulation, oxygenates skin cells, reduces joint, muscle and bone pain. What is more, it helps to fight rosacea and common acne as well as psoriasis.
  3. Mediterranean Sea salt is a highly mineralized product with thick crystals and white colour. It has a cleansing, moisturizing and regenerating properties. Also, it strengthens collagen fibres, firms the skin and helps to fight cellulite and stretch marks.
  4. Epsom salt contains a lot of minerals, for example magnesium. It improves the condition of the skin and strengthens the nervous system. Bathing in Epsom salts calms, relaxes, and strengthens the body’s immune system.

Bath salt with essential oils

Bath salts are often enriched with essential oils:

  • lavender oil – it has antiseptic and cleansing properties, relaxes and makes falling asleep easier. The use of the oil leaves a feeling of cleanliness and freshness;
  • lemon oil – it has refreshing and cleansing properties, reduces skin discolourations;
  • mandarin and orange oils – they strengthen and regenerate the body, stimulate the senses and positively affect the skin.

DIY bath salt

Bath salt can be bought in any drugstore, however you can also prepare it yourself. You will need coarse grain bath salt and coffee. Mix the salt with brewed coffee, this way the cosmetic will gain a beautiful brown colour.

How to use sea salt?

  1. The temperature of water should not exceed 40 degrees Celsius.
  2. Before the bath, it’s good to rinse the body so that the salt can penetrate into the skin.
  3. The bath should not last longer than 25 minutes.
  4. Let the skin to dry, because wiping it with a towel can rub off the nutrients.
  5. Such baths should not be taken more than three times a week.
  6. After the skin has dried, apply a moisturizing cream.
