Many people experience excessive cuticle peeling. It is most commonly caused by mechanical injuries or dry skin. What are the other reasons for cuticle peeling and how to solve this problem?
Cuticle peeling – causes
Generally, the cuticles become dry due to improper hand care, for example when you do the housework with the use of detergents. All of the cleaning agents used for dishwashing, cleaning windows or floors dry your nails and skin. Consequently, it leads to cuticle peeling, bleeding and also inflammations.
To prevent it from happening, make sure you always use protective gloves. Having finished the cleaning, wash your hands with a mild soap and warm water. Then apply some cream or hand lotion.

Regular manicure
Systematically done manicure, that is once every 7-10 days, will help you cure your cuticles. For this purpose, there is no need to visit a beauty salon, you can just as well do it at home. All you need is a paper file, sharp nail nippers, an orange stick or a cuticle pusher, a cuticle softener, a nail serum, and cuticle oil. If you use all of these properly, you will end up having beautifully shaped, moisturised and healthy looking nails.
It’s good to choose the cuticle oil with a pen applicator because it is usually small enough to be taken everywhere you go.
When doing manicure, do not cut the cuticles too deep. Remove only the unnecessary excess. If you go to deep, you might damage the nail matrix, which can lead to the growth of even larger cuticles.
Manicure treatment in a beauty salon
The professional manicurer will properly file your nails, soften and push the cuticles or, if necessary, cut them with the nail nippers. At the end of the treatment, the manicurist should moisten the cuticles, preferably with jojoba oil or grape seed oil.
However, a single treatment will not solve the issue. Only systematically performed can noticeably improve the condition of your hands.
Proper diet
Equally important is healthy eating and a vitamin treatment repeated 2-3 times a year. You can also drink fresh carrot or aloe vera juice or field horsetail tea. The last one should be applied at least 1-2 times a day for a minimum of 2 months. If these methods do not work, you can try vitamin A ointment.
Breaking bad habits
The worst habit of all is biting your nails. It significantly changes the look of your nails.
It changes the shape of your nails and stops its growth. What’s more, you can break the nail matrix by intense cuticle biting. If you notice that your nails are deformed or curved you might be biting your nails too strong. To improve the condition of your nails, immediately stop doing it. Wait until your cuticles heal and gently push them with an orange stick. Additionally, it’s good to cut your a bit shorter, use nail serum every day and take pills with field horsetail. Three-month treatment should make your nails return to their original condition.
