A beauty parlour and hygiene. What should you know about it?

Do you often visit a beautician? If yes, then you should pay attention to the standards of hygiene that are practiced there. Obviously, the beauty parlour has to be spotlessly clean, the cosmetics used for the treatments cannot be out-of-date, and all the instruments and devices must be disinfected after every single use. Otherwise, inflammations or serious skin disorders may follow, if these standards are not met. Get to know some of the basic hygiene practices that should be adopted by each beauty parlour.

The truth is, precise rules are stated that define the best manner of maintaining high standard of hygiene in a beauty parlour. Following these rules is extremely important because they guarantee protection from diseases and infections that may affect a client and even a beautician. We are also talking about the risk of being infected by HIV virus. The general rules on how every beauty parlour should function include: fumigate all instruments and devices used for beautifying treatments, disinfecting hands and skin before having a contact with a client, segregation of waste, washing of towels and disinfecting all surfaces that a clients’ bodies have close contact with.

The staff and the clients – general hygiene rules

Before a beautician starts providing service to a client, she has to wash the hands and disinfect them. The most important though are the fingernails since underneath them bacteria can accumulate. When the nails are precisely cleansed, hands should be washed one more time. What is more, it is suggested wearing rubber gloves for performing all beautifying treatments and the small wounds have to be covered with, for example, an adhesive bandage. This practice will prevent a beautician from developing any possible infections. Certainly, the close attention should be paid during treatments that tamper with skin (i.e. manicure, pedicure, tattooing, piercing). To clarify, feet of a client should be sprayed with a germicidal and antifungal preparation just before having pedicure done. Moreover, cosmetics containing alcohol are good at skin disinfection.

Instruments and accessories – general hygiene rules

All instruments that are used either at a beauty parlour’s or in at hairdresser’s that do not interfere with skin structure should also be sprayed or put into disinfecting preparation before use. When it comes to the instruments used for manicure, piercing and tattooing, they have to be sterilised in a device called autoclave. Solar beds must be also disinfected after every single use. What is more, all the needles used for permanent make-up and tattooing must be disposable as applicators for some colourful cosmetics along with paper emery boards. Finally, all towels and wipes have to be washed regularly and dried precisely.
