Today we approach the issue of taking care of ourselves more consciously. We have more possibilities as our knowledge concerning the needs of our skin and hair has been broaden. Although some people still choose beauty products following the hit-and-miss technique, there are many of those who prefer reaching for natural cosmetics of high quality. It’s eco care that starts ruling!

What’s eco care?

Eco care is nothing more than just taking care of ourselves accordingly to our natural rhythm and needs, and using only natural vegetable/plant substances to accomplish this task. No preservatives, no synthetic substances, no artificially manufactured alternatives to natural cosmetic components. It turns out that it’s possible to live and take care of oneself staying away from silicones, SLS/SLES, alcohols and artificial aromas that are added to beauty products.

Natural beauty products

Natural cosmetics have numerous advantages which is owed to well-thought-out recipes. The producers whose cosmetics are categorized as eco make sure that their products compositions are free from synthetic substances, preservatives and potentially irritating agents. Instead, you can find there only natural oils, plant extracts, mineral substances and vitamins.

Benefits of natural care:

  • eco cosmetics are more delicate for our skin;
  • natural products are seldom to irritate, overburden or cause allergic reactions;
  • natural cosmetics can be prepared on one’s own;
  • eco hair and body care is more effective and the effects last longer;
  • natural care is cheaper because many cosmetics can be prepared at home.

How to start? Eco care for beginners

The first and the most important rule is that you must always read the labels. And it neither applies to the front labels nor to what is embolden. The more important is what is printed with small font at the back of packaging, e.g. the complete list of ingredients. It appears that green packaging or the prefix ‘eco’ or ‘nature’ in the product’s name don’t always guarantee that the cosmetic you are holding in your hand is what you need.

If you are looking for natural cosmetics, pay attention to:

  • ingredients, so-called INCI, that is the source of information on the substances used to create a particular product;
  • certificates that prove the product’s naturalness;
  • expiration date that shouldn’t be too long because this indicates preservative content.

Composition of natural cosmetics

There is one rule prevailing: less means more. You can dismiss all the cosmetics featuring a few weird-sounding ingredients, which we aren’t even able to decode. Less ingredients don’t indicate worse action. After all, high quality is determined by well-selected substances that answer needs of our skin, hair and nails.

Most frequently natural cosmetics are made from oils and plant extracts so this is what we should look for when buying a cosmetic. Quite welcome are also plant waters and vitamins such as anti-oxidative vitamin E as well as natural waxes – beeswax, carnauba wax, etc.

Certificates on eco cosmetic package

Another issue worth discussing is the beauty product certifying. Producers respecting their clients and the brand do their best to obtain certain certifications that prove the effort put into making their cosmetics natural and eco-friendly.

The most popular certifications that can be found on cosmetic packaging are among others EcoCert, Cosmebio, Natrue, Soil Association, BDiH and ICEA. There is also BUAV organisation which sign indicates that a particular product was not tested on animals. If you take a close look at the packaging, you will surely find the symbols. Of course, a particular product doesn’t have to be labeled with all the certificates, yet it’s best if it features at least one of them. This is the guarantee of the beauty product’s naturalness.
