Once you gain the knowledge concerning the certificates, it will allow you to purchase cosmetics more consciously. Below you’ll find a list of documents certifying the authenticity of a cosmetic being eco-friendly.

ECOCERT: Indeed, it’s one of the most famous certificate proving a product to be eco. It’s used to mark natural and organic products. ECOCERT is awarded in 80 countries, for more than 20 years. If a product is labelled by this French eco-group, it might be perceived as natural and organic.

LEAPING BUNNY: This certificate is awarded to the products that weren’t tested on animals at any stage of manufacturing. Moreover, cosmetics carrying this sign don’t contain animal originated substances (even taken from dead animals). If you notice a tiny outline of a leaping bunny on a cosmetic’s package, you can be sure that no animal was harmed or was suffering because of the product.

COSMEBIO: It’s an association that consociates French producers and laboratories. They set rules that help to determine whether a product is natural and eco-friendly. COSMEBIO requires from the products to be composed of 95% substances of natural origins. Moreover, these natural substances have to come only from eco-farming.

SOIL ASSOCIATION: It’s a British organization issuing certificates to cosmetics, food, clothes and agro-farms. Requirements? Minimum 95% of ingredients of organic origin. It happens that a product carries clear information, expressed in percentages, stating how many natural substances a particular product contains.

VEGAN: As it isn’t hard to guess, cosmetics and food marked with this label can be used by vegans, vegetarians and people whose organism is unable to tolerate lactose. Furthermore, products marked as VEGAN don’t contain any substances that come from animals, including the substances produced by animals like, for example, milk. VEGAN is a sign issued by a British organisation named Vegan Society.

BDIH: This certificate is given to the producers of natural cosmetics, parapharmaceuticals and diet supplements that were subjected to and passed strict tests. What’s interesting, a negative mark issued by this organisation can lead to serious consequences as considerable fines can be imposed on a particular producer.
